RISON - On the witch’s heels of last weekend’s Haunted Village in Rison, local community groups and businesses are closing out the spooky season with more Halloween events across the county beginning this Saturday.

Jim and DeAnna Upp and Jeff Childress of Kingsland, announce the engagement of their daughter, Abbie DeAnna Childress, to Lathan Ferrell Erwin, son of Greg and Karen Erwin of Fordyce. Abbie graduated cum laude from Henderson State University receiving a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Early Voting Begins On Monday, Oct. 24

RISON - Early voting for the 2022 general election will begin this Monday, Oct. 24, at the Hall Morgan Veterans Building located at 404 Sycamore Street across from the courthouse in Rison, County Clerk Jimmy Cummings has announced. All early voting will be concuted at the Veterans Building.

Volunteers Find Child Missing in Woods

RISON - A two-year-old boy from the Glendale area spent more than 10 hours wandering alone through the woods in northeast Cleveland County before being found by a volunteer rescue team at about 11 p.m. Saturday night, Oct. 15.

Rison in the Fall Festival Was Largest to Date

RISON - This year’s Rison In The Fall proved to be its largest in the festival’s history bringing in more entertainment and vendors with crowds estimated to be over a thousand throughout the day and a few hundred staying through the evening’s concerts headlined by Julie Roberts.

Woodlawn Enrollment Up; Considers Graduation Plans

WOODLAWN - Enrollment for the Woodlawn School District was at 575 as of Oct. 1, marking the highest number of students on campus since the 2016-17 school year. Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hancock revealed the enrollment figures during the Woodlawn School Board’s regular monthly meeting Monday night.
