TANNING HIDES - Shona Jordan from Pike County demonstrates the process of converting an animal hide into a pelt during the Arkansas Homesteading Conference held last year at the Pioneer Village in Rison. Jordan, who is also a taxidermist, is returning to this year’s conference to once again discuss the process of tanning hides.

SUCCESSFUL FARMER ALREADY - Alaina Reeves, the 17-year-old owner of Gnome Home Farms, poses with a harvest of oyster mushrooms she raised inside the greenhouse she has set up at her home. She has already established a market for her mushrooms with local chefs and restaurants, and she is also selling dehydrated mushrooms online.
