Bears Get Past Wildcats in 8-2A Tourney Quarterfinals

WOODLAWN - Raylon Lawson's game-high 19 points led four Woodlawn players who finished in double figures as the Bears got past the scrappy Rison Wildcats, 59-37, in the 8-2A District Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night inside the Woodlawn Gym.

WOODLAWN - Don't look now, but he Woodlawn Lady Bears may be starting to peak. Woodlawn pulled off a shocker Tuesday afternoon when the sixth-seeded Lady Bears up-ended the third-seeded Gurdon Lady Devils, 65-39, in the second round off the 8-2A District Tournament being hosted by Woodlawn.

While Lawson struggled to get a few of his shots to fall, he ended up leading all scorers with 19 points. Lea, along with junior teammate Layne Potter, scored a team-high 16 points. It turned out to be Lea's final high school basketball game as Fordyce rallied late to pull out a 52-49 win to end the Lady Wildcats' season.
