Rison Class of ‘78 To Meet Sept. 16

RISON - The Cleveland County Veterans Association will host its annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner Saturday, Oct. 28, organizers John Blanchard and Roger McClellan have announced. The dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.

KINGSLAND - The Open Door Community Pantry located at 650 Hwy. 97 in Kingsland will be handing out USDA commodities from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Open Door Pantry usually distributes commodities on the second Saturday of each month. The pantry is an equal opportunity distributor.

RISON - After a lengthy discussion, the Cleveland County Quorum Court unanimously approved a motion to spend almost $300,000 for new doors, locks, plumbing and electrical work at the county jail to help keep it in compliance with state standards.

RISON - This year's Cleveland County Fair is set for next week, Sept. 13-16, at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds in Rison, with entries for various judging categories being accepted next Wednesday.
U.S. NEWS BEST HIGH SCHOOLS - Rison High School has been included in U.S. News & World Report's 202324 Best High Schools in America list for its overall academic success in comparison to the social and economic background of the student body. Rison High School also received a "silver" ranking by U.S. News in 2008, being one of only six "rural" schools in the nation to be awarded a silver ranking that year.
