Rison's Matheson Makes Arkansas All Preps Team

LITTLE ROCK - Noah Matheson of the Rison Wildcats has been named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's All Arkansas Preps Underclassmen Baseball team, earning him an invitation to the All Arkansas Preps Banquet to be held June 14 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
Woodlawn senior pitcher Lillie Faye McWhorter was named the 2025 Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for Arkansas on Monday, recognizing her as the top high school softball player in the state regardless of classification. Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating each state’s best high school athletes in each sport for their success on the field, in the classroom and in the community. McWhorter will be playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks next season.

CHICAGO - In its 40th year of honoring the nation's most elite high school athletes, Gatorade announced Monday that Lillie Faye McWhorter of Woodlawn High School is the 2024-25 Gatorade Arkansas Softball Player of the Year.

Veteran Coach Means Takes Over Bears Football Program

WOODLAWN - New Woodlawn Football Coach Doug Means met with some of his players and their parents for the first time last Friday afternoon as he formally introduced himself and gave them an idea of what to expect as they prepared for the upcoming season.

RISON - The Cleveland County Master Gardeners hosted its third Cleveland County Clean Up event this past weekend sponsored by the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Foundation.

Lady Bears Drop Heartbreaker To Riverside 1-0 in Semifinals

PALESTINE - Riverside scored the game’s only run off a passed ball in the top of the fifth inning as the Lady Rebels edged the Woodlawn Lady Bears, 1-0, in the Class 2A state semifinals Saturday at Palestine-Wheatley High School.

Woodlawn Hires Means As New Football Coach

WOODLAWN - Doug Means, a veteran coach who was as an assistant coach/special teams coordinator at Class 5A Magnolia this past season, has been hired as the new football coach at Woodlawn High School.

Ayden Laws was named Offensive Player of the Year and Andrew Couture set a school record for hit by pitches with 21 for the season.

Reeves Wins High Jump at Meet of Champions

SEARCY, Ark. - Christian Reeves of Rison High School cleared 6 feet-6 inches (6-6) in the high jump to beat state high jump champions from across the state at the 2025 Arkansas Meet of Champions last Wednesday, May 14, at Harding University in Searcy.
