Slow-Starting Lady Bears Fall in Opener at Hamburg

HAMBURG - A slow start put the Woodlawn Lady Bears in a 14-point hole by the end of the first quarter as the Class 4A Hamburg Lady Lions managed to hold on in the second half for a 43-33 win in the Lady Bears' season opener Monday night at Hamburg.

Wildcats Take On Bismarck; Bears Advance to Semifinals

RISON - The Rison Wildcats and Woodlawn Bears will both try to extend their seasons this Friday night as they head into second round of the state playoffs. Rison (9-0), the 6-3A conference champions, will host the Bismarck Lions, the no. 3 seed from the 4-3A conference, at 7 p.m.

RISON - Before 9 minutes were played last Friday night at George Walker Field of Champions, Drew Central senior quarterback Kade Bodiford had already passed for 164 yards on just 8 completions, staking the Pirates to a 12-8 lead that they carried into the second quarter against Rison.

Gerald Totty Trophy Returns to Rison

RISON - Because many fans have been asking, Rison head coach Clay Totty stated Monday that the Gerald Totty Memorial Trophy has been returned here - finally - after the Wildcats downed Fordyce in the rivalry game back on October 14.

Woodlawn, Brinkley Have Habit of Meeting in Playoffs

WOODLAWN - Since it’s playoff time, it must mean that Brinkley and Woodlawn will be squaring off again. That will certainly be the case this Friday when the Bears host the Tigers in the first round of the Class 2A eight-man playoffs at 7 p.m. at the Carl Jones Sports Campus.

Bears Take Down Spring Hill, 34-14, for South’s 2-Seed

SPRING HILL - The week prior, Woodlawn Coach Zach Meyer walked away from his Bears’ 40-20 win at Marvell calling it one of their worst performances of the season. This past Friday, in a key South Conference battle at Spring Hill, he walked away calling it one of their best games of the year.

Woodlawn Junior Teams Pick Up Early Hoop Wins

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Junior Bears and Lady Bears split a non-conference basketball double-header with Hermitage on Tuesday night. Kendall Tooke and Jaci Hoyt both scored 11 points apiece to lead the Junior Lady Bears to a 37-30 win over the Hermitage Junior Lady Hermits.

SPRING HILL - The Woodlawn Junior Bears closed out their season with a 24-0 loss to the Spring Hill Junior Bears in a South Conference game last Friday evening at Spring Hill. The game was called in the fourth quarter to due to lightning in the area.

Junior ‘Cats Grab Early Lead, Cruise Past Junior Bears, 46-24

RISON - The Rison Junior High Wildcats ended their 2022 football season on a good note Thursday night of last week at George Walker Field of Champions, ripping the Barton Junior High Bears, 46-24. The win gave Rison a season record of 35 and 3-3 in the 6-3A Conference race.
